Library Fun

The library is a weekly trip for us, so this past weekend was an extra special treat for Wyatt.

The downtown library had a big party to celebrate "this city reads" so of course we wanted to check it out. I have to say even though it was extremely packed, it was so much fun!

We got there in time to hear stories from local celebrities (the mayor and such) with the help of Curious George, Clifford and a few other characters. I was amazed at how much Wyatt loved it. The first book was Olivia and Wyatt sat in his own chair, watching intently, for the whole book. I mean that hardly ever happens at home! In between each book the librarian got up and played a song that all the kids could dance to and Wyatt thought that was best thing. As a result he spent the rest of the story time standing, waiting for the next song.

After story time we got to pick out a book. I was amazed at the selection they had of free books, never been touched that they were giving away. It was great. They had books for babies all the way up to teens. I am sure if everyone knew there were free books for the kids who came, it would have been even more crazy. Wyatt picked out a Mickey Mouse lift-the-flap book.

Then we explored some of the booths set up. The local newspaper was there, showing the kids how to make hats out of a page. And Wyatt loves hats. He had that flimsy paper hat on for the rest of the day, well when it would stay on his head and not fly off because he doesn't know how to hold still. He said hi to Orbit from the Aeros.

We managed to make our way into the children's section of the library by that time, and the biggest surprise of all was waiting for us. There a ton of large, empty cardboard boxes were waiting for kids and adults to make fun things out of. Oh, what fun! Kids of all ages were putting boxes together to make towers and houses. Of course there were a few temper-tantrums being thrown by some kids, but Wyatt was too interested in checking out each creation to care or notice.

Even with all this excitement, the crowning glory came as we were walking out. Curious George was there to meet the kids. Wyatt is a huge fan, and was in awe at seeing Curious George in person. Of course, just like his mommy, he was a little scared, but when I held him he was willing to go up and give George a high-five.

Over all, this was the best event we have taken Wyatt to ever. Oh and did I mention it was completely free?

Just like daddy

Patrick and I have been amazed at how there is plenty of both us in Wyatt. There are times when it seems like he is just like me, especially when it comes to bedtime routines. But anymore he has been wanting to be just like his daddy. This is a phase that I am enjoying, because it lets me have a little more me time, and I can use that time to sit back and watch.

Most recently Wyatt has been wanting Patrick's glasses, and Patrick let him wear them for a few minutes. Wyatt loved them. He was not happy when his "turn" was over.

Another of my favorites is watching Wyatt drink from a cup with Patrick. He watches Patrick so intently before it's his turn.

They really are two peas in pod when it comes to goofing off and having fun - just what all mothers hope for their sons.

Big Boy Bed

Since Wyatt's birthday is just a couple of weeks away, we finally got his crib turned into a toddler bed. Of course this has been a big topic of discussion for a few weeks- Patrick wanted to wait as long as possible, I figured he was old enough to get a big boy bed.

Well today was the day. Naptime went perfectly - it probably helped that he was completely worn out from a fun day and fell asleep in the car!

Bedtime has been a little more of a challenge. He has wondered out of his room at least 3 times. Looking for some more rocking time, cuddle-time, anything that doesn't mean he has to go to sleep. But he's tired and I'm sure that will win out over his curiosity about checking out the world after bedtime.

Time

I knew it would be a challenge but right now I'm feeling it  - I am talking about going back to school. In December I made the decision to go back to school in hope of getting a masters in education. I found out that Kent State offers a well respected program where I could get an MAT (masters of arts in teaching) which would allow me to teach high school (well 7th-12th), which was my goal. After some research I realized I need 5 more undergrad classes in order to qualify for the program, so here I am taking a few undergrad classes in hopes of getting into this program next year.

Currently I'm only take on class so I thought that wouldn't impact my life too greatly, but it has done enough. I am mostly just tired from trying to pack more into my days which makes the regular things more difficult. But that is alright because by the end of this whole process I will be a teacher and working on getting myself into a career I can truly enjoy and feel proud about my whole life.

I am starting to realize in my stress that the smaller moments of peace are amazing. Like today, I was getting Wyatt into the car after work when we heard a flock of geese in the distance. Maybe it was because the street was snow covered and sounds are more clear in the sky when the snow muffles the sounds of the road, or maybe I'm just looking for special moments, but it caught my attention. So Wyatt and I stood outside in the snow and waited until we could see the geese. Then we watched them fly by, there must have been 30 or 50 of them. It got Wyatt's attention. He was amazed at them. Once they were gone and we were heading home, Wyatt repeated over and over "cool geese".
