Elmo wants some

A newer development has been Wyatt's pickiness. I guess I should have expected it since his daddy is one picky eater - granted I had my moments as a child when I would only eat one thing...

Anyway, it seems that for the time being the child who at least tried a bite of everything has vanished. As a result we have been using a ton of chicken nuggets and hot dogs (which I am getting very sick of and I don't even eat them when I make them!). To add to this, Wyatt has decided that Elmo needs to eat as well, granted this adorable form of sharing has only been a couple of weekday afternoons, which means I witness it all by myself. Elmo has needed his own plate with his own food and his own cup. Wyatt then proceeds to take a bite and while he is chewing his own food, he puts a bite in Elmo's wide open mouth. Very adorable.

I guess if I have to struggle through a picky eater stage, at least watching him feed Elmo lightens any frustration I might feel.

Mommy's Birthday

In true family tradition, we had a great birthday celebration for myself and my youngest cousin (well first cousin...) over the weekend. It was a great deal of fun with great food and wonderful gifts, oh and family, did I already say that?

Wyatt truly enjoyed himself. He seems to have a ball every time we go to my aunt's for any family function, but this one topped the list thus far.

My cousin, Elly, got some helium filled balloons for her birthday, and of course Wyatt thought they were the best things ever! He played with just about the whole evening, which was nice because Patrick and I got to spend a little more time chatting instead of entertaining him. After a little bit of carrying them through the whole house, the maylar balloons came untied and that made the game all the more fun. He was all about jumping to try to reach them. We made the game more fun by lifting him to actually reach them himself. Needless to say he wore himself out good!

In the end, Elly graciously allowed Wyatt to take the balloons home and he has loved them just as much at our house. Of course as a result I have been jumping up to reach them on a regular basis - he won't let me attach a string so he can pull them down on his own. I guess the fun of jumping, or rather, watching mommy jump, is just too fun to give up. At least I can consider this a new advancement in my Wyatt diet/workout.

Snow

No real surprise for me, but we got slammed with a ton of snow this week (although we still have snow, this post is a couple of weeks old) - which is always the case around my birthday. Luckily for us, my mom found Wyatt a great snow suit over the weekend at an amazing price, so I guess that means playtime in the snow!

Wyatt was not very into his snowsuit while we were getting him dressed. He could barely move and didn't like the gloves at all. But by the time we got him outside he figured out that outfit had it perks. As I have said before he likes to try to touch the snow and then has a meltdown when he realizes just how cold the snow is. This time he quickly discovered that all those clothes helped him to touch the snow and not feel so cold. Granted he still had a hard time moving with all those layers, but Patrick helped him out.

The best part was that snow easily came up to his thigh in most places and all the way to his hips in some areas! So that was adorable.  He enjoyed every second of, well until he managed to get his gloves off and his hands got cold. No matter, he lasted 20 minutes which for an almost 2 year old that is great!

Hiding

I know it was only a matter of time, but Wyatt has decided it is fun to hide under things now. Granted the list of things he can hide under is fairly small. But this means that the days of building forts out of cushions has begun!

After a long day of new schedules - I started school, more later - it was nice to see Wyatt wasn't deeply disturbed by all the running around he had to do as a result of the new schedule. He just decided to grab some of the blankets off our blanket pile and crawl under the table with them. He was pretending to sleep and wake up there. It was cute. To top it off when I got the camera he looked up and made sure to say "cheese" for each picture. He's turning into a ham.

On the issue of school, after much discussion, I have decided to go back to school. I am currently taking only one class, it will help us all easy back into a busier schedule hopefully. For the next year I will be taking undergrad classes as pre-reqs to a master's program. And if all goes according to plan, by May 2013 I will be a certified high school teacher!

Rolling with it...

Now that the holidays are over and we are trying to get back to our regular schedule we have entered a new phase - the "no" phase and well a demanding stage (so make that two stages at once!).

The no phase is actually funny because Wyatt will be in the middle of handing you something that he wants and if you ask him if he wants it, he says "no" in this high pitched, almost sing-song voice. Like yesterday he had the container of grapes in his hand when I asked him if he wanted some grapes. Of course his answer was "no." And to make it more entertaining he continued to sing no, no while I cut the grapes. So at least I knew this was coming and am able to enjoy it for the time being...

The other little phase isn't so much fun. He has been very demanding in attention in the past few days. He wants us to be his chair for everything, especially when it's time to make a meal or something else that he just can't help with. If he doesn't get the attention he wants he cries, throws tantrums or holds onto my legs as I try to accomplish the task at hand. Again another phase that I figured we would reach, but it isn't as cute as the no phase.

Big Ball Factory

Early in December I mentioned to my brother, Jordan, that it would a great Christmas gift for Wyatt if he put together his big ball factory from when we were younger. It was always a ton of fun for us to put it together and then play with it, and I figured Wyatt would really enjoy it.

The only problem is that when he finally got it up a couple of days after Christmas and I was sick. So I wasn't able to see how Wyatt enjoyed this great gift. But Patrick took Wyatt to my parent's to check it out and according to everyone there Wyatt loved every second. I am looking forward to getting the chance to see how he plays with it later this week. For now here are some of my favorite pictures I hope you enjoy them as well.

Oh and here is a short video that Patrick got so that I could get a little bit more of a real feeling of what it was like for Wyatt and his gift from his uncle Jordan.

Basketball Hoop

I know I said I would stop with the Christmas type posts, but I have to add this one little bit about Wyatt's favorites from Christmas. So my apologies for those of you that are tired of our Christmas.

Anyway, Wyatt got an amazing gift from my dad, Chief or Papa (Wyatt actually calls him Chief- long story...), or rather from my parents. I think I mentioned it earlier, a basketball hoop. Well we put it up in the basement and every single day he has asked to go down there to play at least twice, if not continuously. Although this can be a pain for us while we are trying to get ready for work or dinner, it is nice to watch him play. He truly enjoys every single second of his playtime with his new "hoop".

I know this won't come as a surprise for many of you but I am always impressed at how much of a boy Wyatt is. I mean he loves sports, rough-housing and anything that you would stereotypically think of as a boy activity. I will extremely surprised if he doesn't end of being obsessed with some kind of sport as a teenager (of course now that I have said this on record...). This is actually exactly what I hoped for in a boy. I am a fairly active person and am very pleased that Wyatt is happy throwing a ball back and forth and will always be up for a walk to a playground - God knew exactly what he was doing when he gave me Wyatt.

On a side note, my mom and brother gave my dad a great little, silly Christmas gift - a postcard of American Indian Chiefs with my dad's picture in one of them! For those of you who haven't heard the story my dad jokingly said that he didn't want to be grandpa because then he would feel old (at least when I first got pregnant that was his stance) so instead he said we should call him chief. So we did jokingly for a while. Somehow the name has caught on and Wyatt now calls him "chief" which is adorable. So this small gift is most certainly on the list of great gifts this holiday season.
